If you thought that winter was the only opportunity for unique recreation high up on a mountain we are pleased to let you know that summer can offer even more of a variety of unique recreational experiences for the entire family.

However, in the years that Lake Tahoe experiences record snow fall, skiing and snowboarding might still be available at certain mountain resorts like Squaw Valley well into the summer. If snow is not your favorite, and that is why you are visiting during the summer, be relieved that opportunities at 8200’ are abundant. Squaw Valley, located on the northwest end of Lake Tahoe, offers their High Camp Experience, with a landscape of vast alpine meadows, rugged mountain peaks and vast trails to explore. Their winter ice skating rink transforms into a roller skating rink with views that do not disappoint. After hiking on abundant trails it will time to relax in their vast outdoor heated swimming pool and hot tub.

Located on the south shore of Lake Tahoe, Heavenly Mountain Resort is a summer recreational playground mecca. Located just one mile from the hotel an entire day can be spent exploring on Heavenly Mountain. You begin with a 2.4 mile scenic ride up in the Heavenly Mountain Gondola, a stop at the observation deck lets you take in panoramic views of Lake Tahoe before you continue on to the top station of the gondola. Once you exit you enter into their mountain adventure land base. The hardest part will be trying to decide what to participate in first. If you purchased their Ultimate Adventure Pass, you will have access to tubing, ropes courses and a climbing wall. Are you more of a thrill seeker ? Heavenly’s newest zip line called the Silver Rush Zipline tour may be exactly what you are looking for. This zipline designed for the thrill seeker travels up to 40 miles per hour made up of chairlift ride, five zip lines, one ariel bridge and an ATV ride back to the Gondola base.

Cycling enthusiast love Lake Tahoe for the diverse terrain options available. Exciting mountain trails from beginner to advanced can be accessed on the south and north end of the lake. Kirkwood Mountain Biking and Northstar Mountain Biking offer lift access trails for exhilarating downhill mountain biking. Prefer to keep two feet on the ground, these mountain resorts also offer hiking.
